
Marcus Thomsen finished in a very solid tenth place in the shot put, the best placing by a Norwegian in the exercise in a global championship since Lars Arvid Nilsen took WC silver in 1991. Thomsen supported 20.66, which is 23 centimeters behind his year’s best. Vossingen was close to being among the top eight who got six throws, then he had to have delivered a shock of 20.82. It was triple American, Olympic champion and world record holder Ryan Crouser won with a championship record 22.94. Incidentally, the USA won four golds on the fourth day of the championships, the best day ever by a nation in WC history.
